We're always taking photos. They record the garden at a moment in time.
Clematis do not normally attract stinging insects, but that doesn't mean that insects may land on them to check them out.
Lilies are June flowers too! They are fairly low maintenance plants except some need to be staked to keep them upright. Then, again, others have nice, thick stems and don't need to be staked. Lilies make nice upright accent plants among shrubs.
Hydrangea 'Annabelle' blooms in the shade of white pine trees. The flowers stay on through the summer and turn different colors as they dry. This is a wonderful low maintenance plant that needs room.
I bought this hosta at a Delaware Valley Hosta Society sale. I planted it and forgot about it. Last year I was walking along a path I don't take very much and came across it. This hosta didn't get very much care for about the last ten years, but what a beauty -- large, vibrant, and hardy. It's name is Hosta 'Garden Treasure'.
This is one of my favorite clematis. I love the vibrant color and the frilly center. It's one of our oldest plants. It's one of those plants that went dormant for a few years, and just reappeared hardy and vibrant as ever. Thank you!
This is a Polish variety developed by Szczepan Marczynski and is new to us; we planted it last fall. Unlike most other clematis that bloom once early in the season, this clematis should bloom for most of the summer. Of course, the blooming cycle depends on how much rain it receives. Little rain means few flowers. Even after all of these years, it's always nice to plant new plants and watch how they react to their environment.
This tree - a male Thornless Honey Locust - is 45 years old. From the angle Ted took the photo the tree dwarfs the shed behind it. The Honey Locust has fine foliage which looks especially beautiful against the blue sky. Longwood Gardens uses another male variety in their parking lot at Kennett Square, Pa.
